Join the Black Educational Advocacy Coalition (BEAC) June 16th-22nd, 2026 for a cultural and heritage journey in Ghana. An 8-day, 7-night heritage and history expedition to Ghana, West Africa. Mark your calendars for this week-long journey into the heart of West African Culture and History.


Itinerary Highlights: Experience the Heart of Ghana



Historical Immersion: Journey through Ghana's powerful history from ancient kingdoms to the fight for independence.

  • Accra City Tour- Explore historic Jamestown, Independence Square, and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.

  • Ashanti Kingdom- Travel to Kumasi to visit the Manhyia Palace Museum, the heart of the Ashanti region.

  • Cape Coast & Elmina Castles- Embark on emotional and powerful tours of these historic slave castles.


Cultural Discovery: Engage with the vibrant, living culture of Ghana through its markets, crafts, and food.

  • Traditional Craft Villages- Witness the creation of iconic Kente cloth and Adinkra symbols.

  • Local Markets & Cuisine: Shop at the bustling Makoia Market and enjoy authentic Chanaian food throughout the trip.


Adventure & Scenery: Experience Ghana's breathtaking natural landscapes from the rainforest canopy to the coastline.

  • Kakum National Park- Walk across the famous Canopy Walkway for a stunning view of the rainforest.

  • Coastal Relaxation- Unwind with relaxing moments and beachfront dining.

Please read this information carefully and keep it for reference as you prepare for travel.

Flights

  • I will share our recommended flight itinerary approximately three (3-4) weeks prior to departure.

  • You are welcome to book a different flight as long as you arrive in Accra on June 16 or prior to noon on June 17.


Passport Requirements (Apply ASAP)


Please ensure your passport:

  • Is valid and will not expire within 6 months AFTER returning to the U.S. (must be valid through at least December 2026)

  • Has at least two (2) blank visa pages (not including the back cover)


If you do not currently have a passport or need to renew one, apply no later than February 15. Earlier is strongly recommended.


Payments & Deadlines


Total Trip Cost: $1,500 per person (double occupancy), excluding airfare and lunch/dinner meals. Note: Single-room accommodations are available for an additional $400.


Payment Schedule

  • Non-refundable deposit: $500 due by February 15

  • Remaining balance: $1,000 (may be split into three payments)


Suggested payment plan:

  • $300 – March 15

  • $300 – April 15

  • $400 – Final payment due May 15

Ghana Visa Information (Apply by April 1)

All travelers need a Ghana entry visa.



Processing time:

  • Standard: ~15 business days

  • Expedited: ~7 business days


Visa Fees (U.S. Passport Holders – Washington DC)

  • Single-entry standard: $100

  • Single-entry expedited: $140


Apply no later than April 1 to allow time for processing and mailing.


Required Visa Documents

  • Valid passport + copy of bio-data page

  • Visa application form (completed & signed)

  • Passport photo (taken within last 6 months)

  • Proposed travel dates (June 16–22)

  • Occupation / profession

  • Residential & business address + phone number

  • Financial means

  • Ghana accommodation details (provided during group session)

  • Parent consent letter for travelers under 18

  • Prepaid self-addressed UPS or FedEx envelope with tracking


Photo requirements:

  • Color photo, white or off-white background

  • Facing forward, neutral expression

  • Eyes open, no hair covering eyes

  • No hats or face coverings (unless religious/medical)


Online payment is accepted.We will host a Zoom group session to walk everyone through the visa application on Feb. 9 at 6:00 pm.

Health & Travel Insurance


Required / Recommended:

  • Yellow Fever vaccination (REQUIRED for entry)

  • Malaria medication (consult your doctor or travel clinic)

  • Travel insurance (strongly recommended)


Schedule doctor or travel clinic visits by March 15 to ensure vaccines and prescriptions are completed on time.


Phone Service

  • Contact your mobile carrier about international calling/data plans before departure.


Weather & Packing

  • Accra is hot and humid (mid-80s°F)

  • Pack:

    • Light summer clothing

    • Comfortable walking shoes

    • Sandals or flip-flops

    • Hat or head covering

    • Small personal fan (optional)

    • Electrical power converter (U.S. → Africa)

      • Available at Walmart, Amazon, Walgreens


Currency & Spending Money

  • Ghana’s currency is the Ghanaian Cedi (GHS)

  • Exchange rates fluctuate; currently approximately 12–16 GHS per $1 USD

  • Notify your bank before travel

  • Bring $50 or $100 U.S. bills for currency exchange

  • Credit cards are accepted in some places, but cash is strongly recommended

  • Our guide will assist with exchanging money once we arrive
